Sugar Free Lemon Frozen Yogurt

This is the perfect frozen treat to enjoy this time of the year.
Even better, this is a healthier dessert, something that really makes me happy as well!

Did you try my Sugar Free Strawberry Yogurt recipe?

That was a similar recipe for frozen yogurt that is easy to make.
However, that recipe features strawberries while this one is all about the lemony taste.

Going on a brief tangent.....I like making my own ice rather than using my ice maker. Here is one reason why I like making my own ice.
There are some super cool ice cube trays that make drinking everything more fun!

I use to wonder if you can just freeze yogurt to make frozen yogurt.

I know that this is an easy recipe but, simply putting yogurt into the freezer may not hail the best dessert.
The problem with placing a tub or container of yogurt in the freezer and expecting to come out as frozen yogurt is that yogurt contains a lot of water. As a result of the water you will probably just get a giant frozen yogurt ice cube and not that yummy dessert that you were craving.

You could use actually still make a frozen yogurt dessert from just yogurt.

One way to do this is to simply freeze the yogurt but, not for more than two hours. Another way to do make frozen yogurt from just yogurt is to drain the water from the yogurt (good luck!) and then freeze what remains from the yogurt.

I have also always wondered if frozen yogurt Sugar Free?

Obviously, a recipe has sugar in it if the sugar is added to it as an ingredient itself or as part of another ingredient.
Usually, the sugar that is added to a recipe such as this one, also adds texture in addition to the sweet taste.

This sweet taste in this recipe comes from natural sources.

The lemon juice in this recipe add both the flavor and the sweetness.
Because lemon juice can be a bit sour, you can also add some sugar alternative to your frozen yogurt.

Here are some tips Sugar Free Lemon Frozen Yogurt

This recipe works best when you use an ice cream maker or "ice cream freezer". A workaround for this if you do not have one is to use a blender (such as a Vitamix) and blend the mixture and then freeze it. Remove the frozen mixture from the freezer and re-blend again and refreeze.

I have a few more frozen yogurt tips for you.

  1. This recipe calls for plain old yogurt. However, you could use a vanilla or lemon flavored yogurt instead. Using a low fat yogurt is also an option if you do not mind a less creamy result.
  2. To make this in an ice cream maker, simply mix the ingredients as directed in this recipe. Then place the mixture in the refrigerator for about an hour. Then follow the directions on your machine to make your frozen yogurt.
  3. You can make this a lemon ginger frozen yogurt recipe by adding a tablespoon of minced ginger.
  4. This is also a great recipe to add some fruit to. I would stir in the fruit chopped (depending on the size of the fruit) just bfore freezing.

What kind of yogurt works best when making frozen yogurt anyway?

I really like the healthy benefits associated with Greek Yogurt.
However, regular plain or vanilla (or lemon) yogurt will probably be easiest in this recipe because of the consistency in them.
If you choose to use Greek Yogurt, use 1 ½ cups of yogurt+ ¼ cup of milk that has some fat in it if needed for consistency. Half and Half may also work in this recipe (have not tried it myself).
