Summary

  • The Enclave makes a powerful return in the latest Fallout 4 update, adding challenging encounters and small bases scattered throughout the Commonwealth.
  • The sinister government organization, known for its extremist beliefs, serves as the primary antagonist in Fallout 2 and Fallout 3.
  • Fallout 4 sees a surge in popularity following the release of its next-gen update, coinciding with the success of the Prime Video series based on the franchise.

The latest update for Fallout 4 finally added one of the franchise's most notorious factions to the game and with the help of mods, The Enclave has never been more prevalent throughout the Commonwealth. The game's recent next-gen patch may have inadvertently broken many of the community's most popular mods but the addition of the sinister government organization that plagued the Capital Wasteland was received well by both old fans and new. Unfortunately, The Enclave is only really prevalent for a single quest, so it's a good thing there's a way to make them more pronounced.

Posted to Nexus Mods by creator Killerinstinckt, the aptly titled "Enclave Outposts" adds a variety of small bases set up by pockets of the organization all around the nuclear Commonwealth. These small encampments, which have been scattered across the entire map, usually consist of a small structure to protect the remaining scientists and troops, many of whom are decked out in the iconic black Power Armor. The Sole Survivor is also more likely to come across Enclave patrols, making for some challenging random encounters when players are least expecting it.

Serving as the primary antagonists of both Fallout 2 and Fallout 3, the Enclave is one of the most sinister groups laying claim to the Wasteland. Built on a doctrine of "purity," the organization is a strong believer in eugenics and the eradication of anyone who doesn't agree with their mission, putting them at odds with almost every other faction trying to survive. The Brotherhood of Steel ultimately mounted a major attack against The Enclave in Fallout 3, destroying the group's last major base and forcing them to scatter across the country.

In Fallout 4's latest update, the Sole Survivor merely deals with a fractured piece of The Enclave as they discover that small groups still remain and are dedicated to rebuilding. Looking into the disappearance of a trading cavern leads to the revelation that the organization has managed to establish a sizable base in the Commonwealth. Once every member has been killed, players learn that several smaller outposts can be found around the map, the aspect that inspired the aforementioned mod.

Fallout 4 is no doubt experiencing a massive surge in popularity given that Bethesda largely released the game's latest next-gen update to help prompt the Prime Video series based on the franchise. The show proved so successful that audiences flocked to the fourth mainline game, boosting its player numbers to the highest they've been in close to a decade. How long the hype will last remains to be seen, but with a second season of the streaming series confirmed, it's safe to bet that another popularity spike is on the way.
